Straight Up Fishing Spring Classic

Brian Latimer, known better to the fishing world as BLAT, hosted the Straight Up Fishing Spring Classic. This tournament was held on the Fishing Choas platform for the month of June. Anglers were able to fish from banks, kayak, boat, and wading. The field consisted of anglers from all over.

How To Get In On The Straight Up Fishing Spring Classic

In order to claim a spot in the classic, you must have made a purchase off of ShopBLAT. I ended up purchasing some Zman Mag Fatty Worms. These are great for texas and Toyko rig. Inside the package was a code for the classic. After signing up on Fishing Choas it was off to the lake for a day of bass fishing.

Catching Bass From My Kayak

I traveled to Savannah, Georgia where I do most of my bass fishing. The Ogeechee River offers great opportunities for all bass fishermen. From tidal waters to slow-moving waters to dead oxbow lakes. I chose to fish dead oxbow lakes for one simple reason, big bass.

After fishing for half the month of June, I had placed within the top 40. Continuing to finish out the month, I decided to go to a small oxbow lake. Having a texas rig worm already rigged, I decided to start pitching near the grass edges. Pitching the big Zoom Monster Junebug Worm into the edge of the grass, I reeled it a few feet out and saw a big fish chasing it. Pausing it and letting it fall again, big mama nailed it. After a short fight, I was able to dip net it and get inside my Nucanoe Frontier 12.

Measuring and Weighing Bass

Since this was a catch-photo release tournament it was time to take a measurement. Using my Ketch Board, I measured the big momma at a total length of twenty-five inches. WOW! One of my best-ever kayak bass fish. Since she was HUGE, I decided to hook her on the weight ring. This big bass topped the RUNCL Digital Scale at 8.48 pounds. After posing for a few pictures and measuring, the big momma was released back into the lake.

Straight Up Fishing Spring Classic Finish

At the end of the month, I was able to bring home a top 40 finish. The largest bass, Big Momma, also gave me the biggest bass fish caught for the overall tournament. I ended up winning a cool prize packet from BLAT for scoring the biggest fish.
