While exploring Google Maps, I found the perfect little farm pond, Calloway Lake, in Tattnall County, Georgia. After asking around the area and other kayak bass anglers, they told me it was a pay lake. I planned a trip with a fellow kayak bass angler friend, Cleveland, to scope out the new place.

Cleveland and I took out one morning around seven and traveled about 45 minutes to Calloway Lake. Shortly after arriving at the fishing hole, we paid our five dollars to the old steel box at the access point.
Overview of Calloway Lake
Before unloading the kayaks, we did an overview of the lake. A line of Cypress Trees lined the lake for about 200 yards. In the middle of the lake were several clumps of trees as well. By seeing all this, we were sure there was also old submerged timber as well we could not see.

The area to launch was dug out a little, and easy to launch the kayaks. Immediately both of us headed for the clump of closet trees. The weather was overcast, and the wind blowing slightly created just enough ripple on top of the water. This is my favorite condition to cast a TRU-TRAC Spinnerbait in Grey Ghost.

For the trailer, I used a Keitch Swing Impact 2.5 in Sight Blue Ghost. This beef ups the spinnerbait a little but does not affect the blades’ vibration.

Establishing a Pattern
Continuing to fish the standing timber in Calloway Lake, I was able to get my first bite. Throwing at the base of the Cypress Trees and bumping the spinnerbait off the root system triggered a bite.

Cypress Trees have massive root systems and can hold numerous bass on one tree. I continued to fish all the trees for the next several hours. Cleveland was able to establish a pattern doing the same but using a Texas-rigged Senko.

We both continued to work the pattern and were able to boat several more fish throughout the day.
If you like to get off public waters that have pressured bass, this would be a good place to start. Located off Old Anderson Church Road just inside Tattnall County, Georgia, is a great little pay pond you can spend the day at.
